Consciousness-raising.

It's unfortunate, isn't it, that once you realize the cheesecake you've been eating all your life is actually bullshit, you can't go back to thinking it's cheesecake again.

You have several options at this point. You can shout and scream at the person who made you realize you were eating bullshit, and call them a deluded malcontent who wouldn't know good cheesecake if you shoved it in their face. You can go to a different restaurant realizing they're all going to have bullshit-heavy menus. You can decide to skip dessert from now on.

You can also breathe, sit back, call the waiter, and ask to try the tiramisu instead. You might feel like a fool at first, because why the hell shouldn't you expect the tiramisu to be bullshit just like the cheesecake? Can you even trust yourself to recognize bullshit when you taste it?

It might be that your sweet tooth is always going to lead you astray, that there's no dessert in the world that doesn't have a speck or two of bullshit in it. And the more time you spend trying different desserts, the better you'll get at recognizing that distinctive whiff. You may or may not come to appreciate your heightened sense of smell. But you will learn, whether you want to or not, that cutting off your nose won't make it go away.
